(this is the correct version) comes from Lord
Lichfield?s grandmother. She claimed that it referred
to a shepherdess who converted pagans on one of the
hills of Rome. Though there are several legends of the
kind, none refer to "Alicia" and comparison of two
letters from her on the subject to myself and Paul
Smith makes it clear that she thought up the
inscription herself to fit, rather than remembered it,
so this is an intriguing red herring!
