That's indeed true, to an extent.
They were chosen with two main criteria:
- resemblance (but not to the level attained by Frogguy)
- preservation of tentative vowel/consonant identification
Thus, the alphabet would be easy to learn and made the words just
about pronouncible. 
In any case, any similarity between Eva-translitterated words and known
words in known languages is _probably_ coincidental.
(Otherwise the VMs is in Czech as there are quite a few lookalikes 
in that language).
